Pune’s Mangaldas Road, a vital artery in the city, is in the throes of mounting frustration and safety concerns as construction delays persist, exacerbating traffic congestion and risking accidents. Originally diverted due to the Sadu Vasvani Bridge reconstruction during lockdown, the situation worsened with recent developments in drainage work, reducing commuter lanes and intensifying traffic jams.

The road is currently facing traffic chaos due to one way vehicle entry due to ongoing Sadhu Vaswani bridges’ reconstruction work.

“The ongoing construction has severely impacted daily commuting,” lamented Sathi Nair, a resident affected by the disruptions. “The initial drainage and tarring efforts were marred by poor quality, leading to frequent collapses and prolonged halts in work.”

Residents have not been shy in expressing their discontent. “We’re facing a dire situation with no respite in sight,” stated one resident, echoing the sentiments of many who feel the authorities have failed to address their concerns adequately.

Rohidas Pawar, DCP Traffic, acknowledged the challenges but has yet to provide a substantive response, leaving residents feeling ignored and unsafe.

Aniruddha Pawaskar, HOD of PMC Roads, has reassured residents that corrective measures are being pursued. “We are closely monitoring the situation,” he affirmed. “Stringent actions will be taken against contractors responsible for delays and substandard work.”

Currently, only 50 meters of the project remain unfinished, with efforts underway to expedite completion. Despite assurances, residents remain skeptical due to previous setbacks and delays.

“We urgently appeal to PMC to prioritize finishing the remaining work,” implored concerned citizen Roda Mehta, stressing the need for immediate action to alleviate traffic woes and ensure public safety.

PMC officials, led by Aniruddha Pawaskar, have committed to resolving the issues promptly. However, until tangible improvements are seen, residents of Mangaldas Road continue to endure the disruptive effects of prolonged construction and persistent traffic chaos.

The situation remains fluid as authorities strive to balance completion deadlines with quality assurance, aiming to restore normalcy on Mangaldas Road and regain residents’ trust in the construction process.
