Amitesh Kumar, Pune’s commissioner of police, questioned Metro representatives while assessing the traffic situation at Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk on Thursday (29th February).

“Aaapko kitna time lagne wala hai,” he asked them which can be seen in the video, asking them to finish the work overnight and stay until sunrise.

Pune residents continue to express concerns about worsening traffic issues despite ongoing road construction and metro projects, especially at bottlenecks like University Chowk. The situation continues despite multiple complaints from Pune residents, visits from MLA Siddharth Shirole, and traffic police diversion plans.

Pune City Traffic Police recently put in place a diversion plan to handle traffic congestion brought on by construction on University Road. It is currently forbidden for cars to access Savitribai Phule Pune University through Senapati Bapat Road and Ganeshkhind Road, which is the main entrance. Commuters are required to take an alternate route, which involves making a right turn from the Millennium Gate close to the Chatushrungi Police Station.

Additionally, there will be restrictions on vehicles entering SPPU through Baner and Aundh’s main entrance. Drivers coming from Aundh Road have to turn left at University Chowk and take Aundh Road to the Millennium Gate, whereas those coming from Baner must enter through the Millennium Gate.
