A doctor & hospital owner at Awhalwadi Road in Wagholi has requested the Pune District Collector to relocate/shift a wine shop which is situated near his hospital.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, the Doctor & Hospital Owner at Awhalwadi Road, requesting anonymity, said “I run a hospital at Awhalwadi Road in Wagholi. A wine shop is located nearby my hospital where a lot of drunkards keep consuming alcohol & roam around in the area. The wine shop must be shifted as a lot of patients, pregnant women etc keep visiting the hospital. Due to drunkards, their safety will be compromised.”

The doctor further says “Also, having a wine shop near a hospital/medical facility is not good as the patients might get affected by it. Also, there is a school & a gym in the building where I have my hospital. Hence, a lot of people keep visiting the building. They also might get affected by this. That is why I submitted the request to the District Collector yesterday, 15 February.”

Similar to the doctor, a pre-school in the same building has written to the Pune District Collector about the same issue, stating that the presence of a wine shop near a pre-school raises several serious safety concerns. The proximity of wine shop exposes young children to alcohol-related activities and influences, which is inappropriate and potentially harmful to their development. Allowing such establishments near educational institutions sends a wrong message about the community values and priorities. The pre-school urges to take immediate action to prevent the establishment of the wine shop the pre-school.

Several parents & teachers of the preschool have requested the authorities to take appropriate action against the establishment wine shop. They say that it is not at all good for the future & overall growth of children. They further said that if no action is taken against this, they will raise objections & stage a fierce protest.

The doctor is seeking attention from the Collector office.
