Ahead of the polling day for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, citizens of Wagholi took matters into their own hands and rolled out a manifesto on Monday. This manifesto is to be handed over to the candidates who are contesting from the Shirur constituency.

The manifesto was released by the Wagholi Housing Societies Association (WHSA) and is titled “Sense of Citizen’s — Manifesto for the Restoration of Wagholi”. The manifesto opens with a powerful quote which resonates with all the citizens of the world’s largest democracy. “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.”

The manifesto highlights key issues of concern for the residents. It includes infrastructural as well as sanitation projects for a holistic development of the area. Pune-Nagar highway, waste management, water conservation, construction of internal roads, drainage pipeline, Pune metro extension till Wagholi and solutions for the electricity issues are some of the components of the manifesto.

Key issues highlighted:

·        Congestion at the Pune-Nagar Highway

·        Garbage processing plant not functional

·        Inadequate water distribution in times of water scarcity

·        Inconvenience due to lack of internal roads

·        Persistent electricity issues and frequent power cuts

·        Water clogging in drains

Solutions provided in the manifesto:

·        Road widening and construction of flyover

·        Commissioning of 2 garbage processing units to process over 60 tons of garbage daily

·        Water tanker policies to be brought into action

·        Internal roads to be maintained by the local administration

·        Set up of a new substation in Wagholi

·        Proper sewerage system for waste disposal

In addition to these demands, the citizens also appreciate the proposal to extend the metro work to Wagholi, which is experiencing rapid urbanisation and population growth. The residents focus primarily on permanent and sustainable solutions to their problems.
