City experiences a sharp dip in nighttime temperature, with light rain forecast due to cyclone remnants.

On Friday, Pune’s nighttime temperature dropped to a cool 16.7 degrees Celsius, marking the lowest temperature recorded in October this year, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This dip is part of a consistent cooling trend observed since October 23, when the temperature was 21.7 degrees Celsius, dropping steadily to 16.7 degrees by October 25. In the same period, the maximum daytime temperature also saw a slight decrease from 33.7 degrees on October 23 to 32.7 degrees Celsius on October 25.

However, a rise was noted in the maximum temperature on October 26, with Pune recording 33.2 degrees Celsius, 1.7 degrees above the normal level for this time of year. The cooler nights resulted in light fog during late-night and early-morning hours, causing minor visibility issues across parts of the city.

The recent weather changes are linked to the remnants of Cyclone Dana, which impacted the east coast of India, particularly Odisha. As the remnants moved westward, they brought increased moisture into Maharashtra, affecting Pune’s weather. Experts predict a slight warming trend from October 27 onwards due to this increased moisture.

A former head of the weather and forecasting division at IMD Pune noted, “The relative humidity has risen across the state, particularly in Vidarbha, due to the westward movement of Cyclone Dana’s remnants. This is expected to bring light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in Pune between October 29 and November 2.” Additionally, areas in Vidarbha and South Maharashtra are anticipated to see rainfall beginning October 28, influenced by the shifting weather patterns.
