The Purandar airport project has been under discussion for a while, with ongoing debates about its establishment. Recently, the government has decided to proceed with the airport at its original location. This information was shared by Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Muralidhar Mohol.

Mohol announced that the proposed airport in Purandar will indeed be constructed at the previously approved site, as confirmed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). A meeting involving various agencies, including the DGCA, the Airports Authority of India, and the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), is scheduled to take place soon, where a joint inspection of the site will be conducted.

Additionally, Mohol mentioned that the process of acquiring land for the airport will commence shortly. The proposal for Purandar Airport was initially submitted by the MADC to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation back in 2018. The site was chosen during the Mahayuti government, and the airport proposal received approval at that time.

However, in 2021, changes in the government led to technical challenges that stalled the project. Mohol indicated that the proposal was put on hold until the Mahayuti government resubmitted it in 2023. According to this latest proposal, the DGCA has now approved the construction of the airport at the original location.
