ST Workers Announce Indefinite Strike During Ganesh Festival, Threatening Statewide Disruption
Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Transport (ST) Corporation has received an overwhelming response from passengers during the Ganesh festival, with 4,953 additional buses fully booked so far. However, with only a few days left for the festival, there is a possibility that the ST service might be disrupted across Maharashtra.
The Joint Action Committee of ST workers has announced an indefinite strike starting September 3 due to unresolved demands. The workers are demanding parity in pay with state government employees, implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission, clearing of outstanding pay differentials from the last pay increase, payment of arrears of the dearness allowance, correction of issues in the previous contract, and extending the cashless medical scheme to all employees.
If the ST service is halted during the Ganesh festival, it could cause significant inconvenience to passengers across the state. The Joint Action Committee has warned that the state government will be held responsible if devotees face difficulties during this period.
