Pune: In a remarkable display of community spirit and dedication to the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, Ujwal Park, one of the oldest societies in the NIBM Road area, recently organized a successful cleanliness drive to support the Indian Government’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan declared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This initiative was a tribute to the great Mahatma on his birth anniversary and witnessed enthusiastic participation from all sections of the society.

The newly formed committee of Ujwal Park, NIBM Road, under the dynamic leadership of Chairperson Alka Bhavsar and Secretary Rekha Kulkarni, spearheaded this noble endeavour. Both these empowered women played a pivotal role in galvanizing the community towards a cleaner and healthier living environment.

Member of the committee, Smita Tribhuvan shared the details of the cleanliness drive held in the society.

On Oct 1, 2023, Sunday morning, members of Ujwal Park, from children to homemakers, professionals to senior citizens, gathered with a common goal – to give back to the community and uphold the values of cleanliness and hygiene that Gandhiji held dear. Armed with brooms, bins, and unwavering determination, they embarked on a two-hour-long cleanliness drive within the society premises.

The response was overwhelming, and the results were nothing short of astonishing. Nearly a truckload of garbage was collected and responsibly disposed of during the event. The support of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) was instrumental, as they provided a truck for efficient waste removal, highlighting the government’s commitment to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan.

After the hard work and dedication of the members, the event concluded with a sense of accomplishment and unity. The committee arranged a well-deserved break, treating participants to snacks and tea, fostering a sense of camaraderie and togetherness.

The drive started with a cleanliness pledge led by Secretary Rekha Kulkarni. Chairperson Alka Bhavsar expressed her gratitude to all the society members for their enthusiastic participation and dedication to the cause. She emphasized the importance of such community-driven initiatives in creating a cleaner and healthier living environment for everyone in society.

Kulkarni also echoed similar sentiments and thanked the PMC for their invaluable support in making the event a success. She reiterated the society’s commitment to continuing such initiatives in the future to ensure Ujwal Park remains a beacon of cleanliness and community spirit.

The Ujwal Park Society’s cleanliness drive not only paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi but also set a shining example for communities everywhere. Their unity, determination, and commitment to Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan have shown that when a community comes together, they can indeed make a significant difference in the world around them.

As the sun set on the eventful Gandhi Jayanti, Ujwal Park, NIBM Road, proved that positive change begins from home, and it can radiate outwards to inspire and motivate others to do their part in creating a cleaner and better India.
