February 1, 2026: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday presented the Union Budget 2026, outlining the Modi government’s roadmap for economic growth, infrastructure expansion, industrial development, and farmer welfare. Key Announcements in Union Budget 2026

1. Textile and Handloom Expansion
A new Textile Expansion Scheme will be introduced along with a National Handloom Programme to prioritise handloom production. A dedicated plan for container manufacturing has also been announced.

2. Seven High-Speed Rail Corridors
The government proposed developing seven high-speed rail corridors, including:

  • Mumbai–Pune
  • Pune–Hyderabad
  • Hyderabad–Chennai
  • Delhi–Varanasi
  • Varanasi–Siliguri

These corridors aim to enhance connectivity and boost regional economic activity.

3. Rare Mineral Mining Push

7. Rare Earth Magnet Corridor

A new independent drug regulator, aligned with global standards, will be established to strengthen the pharmaceutical sector.

9–10. New Chemical Parks
Three new chemical parks will be set up to enhance industrial capacity and reduce dependence on chemical imports.

11. India Semiconductor Mission 2.0
An upgraded ISM 2.0 scheme will be rolled out to reinforce India’s electronics supply chain.

12. ‘One District, One Product’ Expansion
Under the Mahatma Gandhi Gram Swaraj Yojana, the ‘One District, One Product’ initiative will be strengthened, providing training and employment opportunities for rural youth.

13. Promotion of Sports Goods Manufacturing
Domestic manufacturing of sports equipment and accessories will receive focused encouragement.

14. New Bio-Pharma Institutions
Three new educational and research institutions will be set up to strengthen bio-pharma research.

The budget includes several farmer-centric measures:

  • New schemes for cotton production
  • Boost to fisheries and animal husbandry
  • Creation of 500 ‘Amrit’ water reservoirs for fisheries
  • Expansion of coconut and cashew production, benefiting Konkan farmers
