Pune: A young woman from Pimple Gurav has been defrauded of Rs 3.98 Lakh on the pretext of updating her PAN Card.

As per information from Pimpri Chinchwad Police, on October 5, when the victim was at her home, she received a text message from a mobile number 94414 90201 where the accused asked her to update the PAN card by clicking on a fake link otherwise her account will be closed.

When the plaintiff opened the link, the home page of Axis Bank was opened on the plaintiff’s mobile phone and the title PAN Card Update appeared on the home page and there was a message to submit Aadhaar card and PAN card numbers.

When a message was received that the money was debited from her account, the plaintiff opened the Axis Bank app on her mobile phone and found Rs 1,99,968 debited from the Axis Bank account. Also, Rs 1,98,965 was debited from her account. Hence, a total amount of Rs 3,98,933 was lost by the plaintiff.

The woman registered a case at Sangvi Police Station on October 31. The case is registered under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) & Section 66(D) of the Information Technology (IT) Act. Further investigation is underway.
