Legendary Singer Asha Bhosle Dies at 92 After Health Complications in Mumbai
Asha Bhosle, one of the most iconic voices in Indian music, passed away at the age of 92 in Mumbai. She had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday after suffering from cardiac and respiratory issues.
According to sources, the veteran singer had been unwell for the past few months and was brought to the hospital in critical condition. She was shifted to the ICU on Saturday night. Her son Anand confirmed her passing on Sunday afternoon. The last rites are scheduled to take place tomorrow.
Asha Bhosle leaves behind an unmatched legacy in Indian cinema. Born in 1933 into the renowned Mangeshkar family, she began her singing career at just 9 years old. She recorded her first film song in 1943 and rose to prominence in the 1950s, eventually becoming one of the most sought-after playback singers in Bollywood.
Over the decades, she showcased remarkable versatility. Though initially known for cabaret-style songs, she later proved her depth with soulful ghazals, especially in films like Umrao Jaan. Her illustrious career earned her multiple honours, including seven Filmfare Awards for Best Female Playback Singer and two National Awards for songs like “Dil Cheez Kya Hai” and “Mera Kuch Saamaan.”
